FIVE THINGS EXERCISE

When we experience intense emotions, and anxiety becomes threatening and overwhelming, it is difficult to stay in the moment.

There are a few variations of this mindfulness exercise, but this grounding tool - aptly named the Five-Things Exercise – keeps us from spinning out on our thoughts by bringing us back to the present. It can also interrupt the thought patterns that may contribute to feelings of depression and stress.
